Croatia is a country of a thousand islands. The largest and closest to Omis are Brac, Hvar and Korcula.

Brac

Island of Brac is the third largest island in Croatia. Brac is highest island in Croatia with its highest peak Vidova Gora which is 778 meters high. Brac is distant from mainland about 4 nautical miles (7 km). Brac is one of the most beautiful island in Croatia with rich flora and fauna. Brac was full with olive trees and vines in the past, but a variety of diseases, such as disease of grapevine (Peronospora) have forced the residents of the island to migrate from the island of Brac to the Americas and Australia.

Today island of Brac has less than 14 000 inhabitants. But it is one of the most favorite tourist destinations in Dalmatia. The largest towns on the island are Pucisca and Supetar. Beach Zlatni Rat in Bol is one of the most famous beaches in the world. It is a favorite destination for lovers of windsurfing.. One of the interesting notability of the Brac is famous lime stone which is called "Brački kamen". Stone is embedded in lots of famous worlds building (one of them is White House).

You can get to Brac by following ferries: Split - Supetar and Makarska - Sumatrin. From Omis boats daily drives tourists on various trips to Brac.

Island of Hvar is located south of the island of Brac. Island's history goes back to ancient Greek era, where it was founded as the Greek colony of Pharos. Island of Island of Korcula is situated behind island of Hvar. Various archaeological studies have confirmed that island of Korcula was inhabited in prehistoric times, and the island was also (like island of Hvar) a Greek colony. Today Korcula is one of the most popular tourist destination on the whole Adriatic. Most important places on the island of Korcula are city of Korcula and Vela Luka. City Korcula is very interesting, because the entire old town is built in the shape of fish.
