Mountains in Omis surroundings
Mountain Dinara surrounds Omis with its steep slopes, and, along with Cetina, provides a special ambience for the city. Near town are mountains Mosor and Biokovo (second high peak in Croatia).
Mosor
Mosor is the mountain in Dalmatia, which stretches from Klis (near Split) to the river Cetina. Canyon of the river surrounds Mosor in a half-circle, which provides spectacular scenery. Mosor is a karst mountain, with the highest peak Veliki Kabal (1339 m). The south side of the mountain Mosor is specific for moderate slopes with lots of cliffs which are 100 to 200 meters high. It's a great area for climbers. At the foot of Mosor lies the following settlements: Zrnovnica, Sitno, Srinjine, Tugare and Dubrava. Mosor is separated from the sea with a mountain chain which is 30 km long, about 800 meters high, and it is only 2 kilometers wide. River Cetina carved a canyon in this mountain and created two mountains: Poljicka planina and Omis Dinara.
Omis's Dinara
Omis's Dinara rises from the sea and river Cetina just above the city of Omis. Mountain with its height and vastness isnt a big mountain. Its powerful rocky massif of steep slopes is 16 kilometers long,
and the highest peak is Kula which is 864 meters high. To the east, lower slopes of Omis Dinara with its branches is connected with the mountain Biokovo, and to the west and to the south it drops into the magnificent canyon of the river Cetina and Adriatic sea with numerous cliffs.
Biokovo
The mountain Biokovo is the second highest mountain range in Croatia. The highest peak is Sveti Jure at an altitude of 1762 meters. The mountain Biokovo is due to its beauty and biological diversity declared a nature park. Nature Park covers an area of 196 square meters. Sveti Jure, the highest peak of the mountain Biokovo, can be easily reached by car. The mountain is filled with a variety of plants and vegetation, and of the animals are most attractive variety of lizards and mountain goats.
